Seascapes

Seascapes

I have been captivated by the many moods, color patterns, and reflective qualities displayed by water. Paring lifelike images within a body of water creates a surface narrative of the dichotomy between what is real and what is illusionary. I make use of partially descriptive objects like boats, swimmers, float planes, and swimming pools set against the reflective abstraction of those objects in the water. And, although water seeks its own level, it also presents a fascinating sense of depth and movement. The surface of water presents one dimension, the mass another, and the third amplitude of complex coloration found throughout my work. I love the challenge and learn anew the wide range of difficult painting styles and techniques necessary to bring clarity and life to my craft.
